Need to get around town?
Rent a bike with BiciPlaya!
Well, a city-wide bicycle program has finally come to Playa Del Carmen!
This worldwide trend has made its way to our little city and it couldn’t have come at a better time!
This city program has launched 44 Bici stations with 500 bicycles around the city.
This is to encourage people to drive less and bike more!
Great idea right?
Here are the 4 plans they offer.
– Daily: 98 pesos
– 3 Day: 196 pesos
– 7 Day: 328 pesos
– Annual Membership – 420 pesos
Get 50% off the annual membership until September 30, 2019 and pay 210 pesos!

Here are 4 ways to rent bikes.
1) You could download their app, BiciPlaya (it is currently in Spanish)
2) Go to their website, https://biciplaya.com/landing
3) Walk into their office on Ave 10 and Calle 8 to purchase a Bicicplaya card. (Plaza Pelicano, the same building where the 3D Museum is located)
4) Or you could use the digital boards that will be available at each station.
“Each bicycle is outfitted with a satellite location chip, which provides security to the user. Personnel will also be available to provide permanent assistance in their customer service center and through its mobile modules.” – BiciPlaya
“The installation of the BiciPlaya bicycle program is part of the city’s new alternative mobility plan that will soon include the installation of parking meters around central areas of Playa del Carmen.” – BiciPlaya
The concept is to rent the bicycle every 30 minutes and then you have to return the bike to the nearest bike station. You lock it in place and wait a couple minutes and get another bike or the same one to continue your ride. Bici Playa explained that this was a way for them to keep better control of the bicycles. This may seem like an issue because I spoke to locals and they explained it made no sense and this will cause a lot of people to be charged the extra fees but these bikes are put in place as transportation, not leisure.
I agree the fees will incur quickly if you can’t return the bike every 30 minutes.
Biciplaya will officially launch September 15 so go out and try it out for a day, see if like it, and comment below to let us know your experience with it!
It seems easy enough.
Well, let me point out some of the terms and conditions.
Fees and Fines: this applies if you don’t return to the station before the 30 minutes are up.
From 30 – 59 minutes – 30 pesos fee
From 60 minutes and every 30 minutes after – 45 peso fee
Once your trip is concluded there are fines if you do not return the bicycle to the station aside from the late fees above.
Inside the Operation Zone but outside of Bici Station – 150 peso fine
Outside of the Operation Zone – 500 pesos fine
By all means, please ask your own questions and contact BiciPlaya!
