Favorite Beach Clubs
Both holiday goers and locals consider a visit to the local beach club, an essential part of the Caribbean beach experience ( think weekend at Bernies…jk!) Well, here in Playa Del Carmen the beach bars are abundant but each quite different from the other. From techno and dance, to family friendly with live bands, check out our personal fav’s when it comes to Playa Del Carmens top beach clubs and bars (in no particular order, you decide!)
Mamita’s Beach Club
Simply referred to as “ Mamita’s” by locals, this beach club is located on a expansive and beautiful stretch of beach. The water has an easy entry ( no rocks or reef to navigate around) though it is near a pier which can get quite busy.
Mamita’s gives off a sexy beach chic vibe, with it’s draped in white beach beds, and different VIP options such as the ‘VIP bed by the pool’ ; $5,500 pesos for five people which includes 5,000 in credit for food and drinks. Bathrooms are air conditioned, and outdoor showers are at a close walking distance from the water. Though they have a family area, this beach club tends to attract an older crowd of 18+, especially during events and high season. Mexican beaches are public, so keep in mind you will be sharing the beach with throngs of people from all over the world, enjoying the free music and pristine shoreline. Don’t forget to check out their enormous NYE party thrown every year, hosting internationals DJ’s and midnight fireworks that attract huge crowds.

Good for: Bachelorette and bachelor parties, couples, champagne lovers, (Perrier-Joüet Champage bar coming soon!)
Music: Techno

Coralina Daylight Club
This place is INSANE, and I mean that in the greatest way. This is literally a daytime dance club, located outside on the beach. I love the pool in the center, where you can rest your head on the side and gaze at the Caribbean waters out front (or at the dancer on the pole, which emerges from the center of the pool, for all to see, yay!) There is constant entertainment, dancers, DJ, sexy costumes, hilarious themes and more…and with all of that happening under the sun, in the tropical heat, it makes it just that much more entertaining. We like the fact that half of the place is shaded, with cozy couches and lounge areas, with the pool as the centerpiece. It’s expensive, and this is the type of place a local would go to on a special occasion only. (PS…leave the kids at home.)
Check out this video below, and yes, it’s like that ALL THE TIME.
Good for: Parties, bachelor/ette parties, party animals.

Fusion Beach Bar Cuisine
If you want a beach bum, surfer lovers, locals only vibe, than this is the beach bar for you. Decorated with vintage (yet functional) surfboards, and sporting its own coconut tree, fusion is the home away from home for many locals and visitors alike. We love the fact that you can rent a paddle board, kayak or surfboard on the spot. The menu is Mexican and Middle Eastern fusion. The shakshouka is savory and filling. The fish is caught daily by the owners, and grilled to perfection with plenty of lime and garlic. Order a coconut, and watch as they machete it into a perfect hand held drink for you. They have a fire show, every night at 11:30 and live music around sunset time. This place is perfect for singles, couples and families. Come early, this beach bar is small and seats go quick.

Good for: Everybody

Diablito Cha Cha Cha
While the beach is seriously receding, that won’t be important for those who aren’t interested in swimming, as this beach bar has an awesome roof and scenic view from your bar stool or beach chair. Formerly known as Canibal Royal, Diablito Cha Cha Cha has an awesome reputation for its epic techno full moon parties and underground parties, often only heard about via last minute flyers and word of mouth. Let’s see what 2019 has in store for this updated classic. We can see something great is in the making, as their social media has a had a “coming soon“ statement for the last few months…. Feel free to let us know what you think of this classic Playa Del Carmen beach club, recently updated with new menu and events.

Good For: Families during the day, techno lovers every full moon.
Music: Techno in the evening, whatever is popular during the day.

Lido’s Beach Club
This cozy club is known for its bright green beach chairs, and it’s prime location in Colibri Hotel. This is the perfect place for a wholesome breakfast (or a margarita) and you will find both locals and holiday goers enjoying early mornings here, as they are open bright and early at 9am ( that’s early for a Mexican beach bar!) They have a DJ, although no set dates, so checking their Facebook for updates on music/events Is best. They have Acoustic music on Friday from 2-5:30pm. With no minimum, and rope swings at the beach, this cozy place is perfect for an affordable and chilled out day frente al mar. We also like the playground (kids only!) skillfully set beneath the shade of thatched roofs and palm trees. It’s a perfect area for kids to make new friends from around the globe.

Good for: Everyone
Music: Popular music, DJ and acoustic Fridays.

Zenzi Beach Club
Zenzi is another locals and vacationers favorite, with a huge menu that has a mix of Mexican and North American favorites. Some of the food is a hit or miss, but I would say if you stick to the the traditional stuff, you can’t go wrong (guacomole, cheeseburger, etc…) We like this bar for it’s large size and live music. Slightly pricier than the neighboring beach bars Fusion and Lido but it’s still very affordable with a great variety when it comes to the cocktails and margaritas. Seats are plentiful and if you don’t want to get your feet sandy, they have a bar set on a wooden floored area with stools and table seating, right by the band. When night falls, the tiki torches are out, and seating is placed even further out on the beach, making a dinner on the beach very intimate. Close enough to hear the sound of the waves, and not to far as to not hear the sound of the reggae band on stage. Also a popular beach bar for casual Caribbean day weddings and private parties.
